You may have noticed on the arrival in 1955 it says he was only intending to stay 10 days. His occupation is "Government Servant" in the Airline Industry. Country of intended future residence is Singapore.

Through my Australian National Library Card I have access to some newspapers from Singapore. There are many mentions of J A H GAUNTLETT eg:

The Straits Times, 27 June 1948 - "former member of the Supply and Transport Directorate ... taking over duties of Petrol Rationing Officer in Singapore" (with photo)

The Singapore Free Press, 1 August 1949 - appointed organising sectretary for the United Nations visit to Singapore.

The Straits Times, 14 September 1950 - "of the Singapore Economic Secretariate"

Singapore Standard, 27 May 1952 - "Administrative Officer, Income Tax Department" (going on leave to Hong Kong)

The Straits Times, 20 June 1957 - (Tax dept admitting an error)

This is the last mention I can see from a quick scan,  there are some possible later items that can only be viewed at the Singapore Library. eg:
Singapore Standard, 31 July 1957  - headline "From Tax Man to Club Secretary"

 No death notice unfortunately that I can see.

There is a letter to the Straits Times signed "John Gauntlett, Singapore":
The Straits Times, 26 February 1961

Another letter (complaining about taxi drivers) simply signed "GAUNTLETT, Singapore" though it says "...fortunately I have lived in Singapore for a good many years ..."

thank you so much for your careful research, both of his occupation and his newspaper letter writing that now give death date AFTER 1964 probably in Singapore.
I wonder if we have a Singapore resident who might be able to research further or who might have known of this man?
