Just seen the 1920 Marriage record, very pleased to confirm this is indeed my Great Uncle William McPhee (McPhie).

Now to follow up the references to his missionary work and son you have kindly found.

Thanks again William and Rosie.

Sorry I’m in a muddle - James not William McPhee!

Definitely, thanks Rosie.

If you have time you may find the account in the ‘Believers’ Magazine’ of interest. I was struck by his story where unlike other young men of his age at the time in this country and around the world he didn’t join up but followed another path.

I’ve been sharing details of other family members’ service in both world wars with my sons and grandchildren and looking forward to telling his story.

While I don’t know if he was a Conscientious Objector it’s clear he chose not to take part in armed conflict in World War 1.

I’ll be intrigued to discuss his life further particularly with the older grandchildren who have been finding out about this period and our relatives’, like so many other families, experiences in the military to give a different perspective.

I also now have some previously unknown family members to track down!

Best wishes
