From another source, it seems James McPhee born 14/4/1883 in Airdrie may have been a missionary (possibly Primitive Methodist) in India not his brother William, and I would be grateful for any information about him beyond his birth record.

There are a couple of notices in the newspaper archive regarding a James McPhee, missionary.

Carluke and Lanark Gazette 22 June 1928

Mr James McPhee, missionary, Angola, Africa,  will give an account of the Lord's work in that land.

Wishaw Press 24 Jan 1947

Mr James McPhee, missionary, Central Africa, will give an account of the Lord's work in that land.

Of course there is nothing to show that this is the James McPhee you are looking for and that it is definitely  the same James McPhee in both notices ( they are some 20 years apart). They do, however, show that it might be worth turning your attention geographically towards Africa. Shipping records might be worth looking at.

There are several immigration records for a James Macphee? ( Missionary )
The last incoming one I can see is

I am now pretty sure that this is who you are looking for.  The surname does seem to have a number of variations,  sometimes showing as Macphie or mcphie.

I would suggest you firstly Google " James Macphie  missionary Angola ". He was clearly a significant figure and was connected to the Brethren.

His marriage was in Dalziel in 1920 to Janet Anderson. This confirms the name of his parents. You can find it on Scotland"s People.

Am on my phone typing this as had to go out and so unable to give links to the above.

I did notice this one which might be worth checking
James Macphie age 46 born Scotland ( Missionary)
Janet Macphie age 43 born Scotland address Overtown Road Strathaven
Robert Macphie age 3 born Scotland

There is a birth for a Robert Mcphee 1926 Bellshill which could be a possibility but certificate would need to be ordered

I am sure that is correct , Rosie. Son Robert is referred to in one of the pieces which comes up if you do the Google search I suggested.
