Evening,

I've recently been put in contact with a fellow Callear who connects to "my" tree via David Callear (b. ~1816)

I am trying to build that part ofthe tree but cannot find their location in 1851 & 1871 census'. The Callear surname is often appears in many forms (Callier, Calear, etc.) hence I thought a search guru may be able to weave some magic!!!

What I know.......

In 1841, David is living in Sedgley, Staffs with his wife Hannah (both 25) and two daughters Esther (6) and Mary (3). Ancestry has the surname transcribed as CalleN.

In 1861, David is living in Oldbury, Worcestershire. He's aged 46, Hannah 45 and they have a number of children: Betsy (18), William (15), George Ed (5), Alfred (5/12). Ancestry has the surname transcribed as Collear

David died in 1867, and Hannah and children can be found in the 1881 and later census records. Hannah is recorded at her son George's house in 1881.

Many thanks for reading and fingers-crossed!

I think there's a typo - David is 46 and Hannah 45 on on 1861

And who is Jane, as mentioned in the title?

David Callear married Hannah Jones in 1834

1871 - probably in Tipton area. I noted she was Barnes by 1881

Hannah Glear, 56
Father    Francis Jones

John Barnes, 52
Father William Barnes

Marriage     14 Apr 1872,     Tipton

I've seen the Glear transcription on some of the children's marriages too

Added: a likely candidate for John Barnes is in Coseley in 1871

Thank you Mabel. Any/all info is a big help.

I corrected my typos - excuse my tardiness. I have a whole.load of new names, etc. in my mind. FYI - Jane is the wife of their son George Enoch Callear/Callier

Still trying to work out how someone read our surname as "Emma"!

Mabel Bagshawe..............1851 is spot on! Thank you.

Dimmocks Lane, Sedgley already has connections to the family

  • Odd "Sarah M" as this appears to later be recorded as Esther M(aria)
  • Mary A = CHECK
  • Elizabeth = Betsy
  • William H = CHECK

Dates all align

It is just 1871 that eludes me  ???
