Robert McLEAN WW1 1920.
« on: Wednesday 17 January 24 14:34 GMT (UK) »
ROBERT McLEAN (or McClean) died on 28 Nov 1920 after service with the Royal Army Service Corps; possibly earlier with Royal Irish Rifles. Aged 36,he died in Down War Hospital (Downpatrick?) but his service records state that his wife was Harriet McLean, living at Orangefield Gate Lodge, Bloomfield , Belfast. I have found no trace in the 1911 Census. Checks of the various Belfast cemeteries have produced nothing.
Does anyone have any info as to who this family were and where Robert might be buried? Does his home address suggest that he might have been a caretaker/gardener for whoever owned Orangefield Lodge at that time?
Any suggestions welcome.

From his War Gratuity amount he was obviously in the Army for many years prior to the War and was therefore on a Barracks Census somewhere in 1911 also he may well have married Harriet 1902 to 1920 as an Army Marriage possibly abroad.
Even the CWGC don't know where he is Buried which is odd.
Possibly the Hospital had its own Cemetery ?
