Good Morning,

Thank you for all the research and information.   I am very grateful.    Daniel PLANT's narrative is now beginning to be both comprehensive and cohesive.

Sadly, details about his "army career" remain outstanding.

Just one small query for "amondg".   You quote “Elizabeth 1889  born 6 July 1869 bap 4 August 1869 at Clitheroe died 1890 reg. Clitheroe"  Are the 1869 figures a typing error? ::)

Once again, my thanks for your help.

CLITHEROE.
BURNING ACCIDENT TO A LITTLE GIRL – An exciting scene was witnessed in Wilkin-square on Sunday night. Shortly before ten o'clock a little girl named Margaret H. Plant, aged 12 years, the daughter of Daniel Plant, was seen to rush out of the house with her pinafore and other clothing in flames. Her screams brought the neighbours to her assistance, who promptly extinguished the flames. It appears that whilst her mother was out the girl was attending to the kitchen fire, and in putting up the "blower" her pinafore caught fire. Dr. Beesley was sent for, and he found that the girl had received some burns about the legs and arms. Her hair was also more or less singed by the flames, but, strange to say, her face had scarcely suffered at all. The girl is progressing favourably.

ANOTHER UNHAPPY COUPLE. – Daniel Plant, labourer, Bawdlands, was summoned for the re-payment of 3s. given in relief to his wife. – It appeared that the man had turned her out of doors, and she stated that he would not give her sufficient money to carry on the house. – Defendant was ordered to pay the amount with costs.

BOROUGH PETTY SESSIONS
MARRIAGE A FAILURE. – Daniel Plant, labourer, was summoned for neglecting to send his child regularly to school. In defence Plant said that on Monday mornings he always gave the children money to go to school, but it seemed that his wife took it from them and spent it in drink. She would not let them go to school and beat them shamefully. He could not do any more than he had done. – He was fined 5s., including costs.

That is an interesting, but essentially dramatic, report.   It will add that extra element to the narrative for Daniel PLANT.

Thank you for your kindness.

Our messages crossed!!!

A sign of Victorian times sadly.   In Australia newspapers regularly carried "Notices" that the husband would not be responsible for his wife's debts.
