Is it possible to obtain a birth certificate if you have that person's death certificate?

It’s not quite as simple as that & we really need more info to answer your question.

There were no birth certs pre 1.7.1837 so you need to tell us when they died & how old they were.

If they died from 1969 onwards a full birthdate will be given on the death cert.

If they were born before 1939 and died before 1969 you can check their birthdate on the 1939 register

Would be simpler if you gave us full details

CaroleW's post is true of England & Wales.
Different rules apply in Scotland or Ireland.

I see that most of your posts apply to Scotland?

Sorry I wasn't more specific, I wasn't trying to be evasive,it was just a random thought,
But to elaborate I'm still trying to track down a great grandparent x3
I have quite a lot of information when he arrived in England, residency, marriage,  and of course  death and place of burial, and Im happy with this information, but I can find no information at all, as to his place of birth and that of parents.
A particular red herring, is on the marriage certificate, that of his father  Hugh ? and after lots of hunting, I can't find any evidence to support this claim that its his Father, maybe an uncle or even his Brother.

As you pointed out I stand little chance of finding the birth certificate of my 3x grandfather as the dob is 1835,

Duncan McGregor 1835-1887 last known address Barony parish, (married  in 1854) Rebecca Dennis 1835-1898,  living in Southwick, Sunderland,  Co Durham .

What place of birth is mentioned on the censuses?
Where did the marriage take place?
