Eresources online National Library of Australia
« on: Saturday 20 January 24 10:28 GMT (UK) »
Hello

This is driving me nuts so I'm hoping someone can help me with accessing the NSW newspapers on eresources. I don't have any problems accessing the Gale News Vault but when I want to search The Sydney Morning Herald 1955-1995 & The Sydney & Age my (Kaspersky internet security) shows" Visiting an untrustworthy website has been prevented" & then I get the message '404 not found'. I have cleared my browsing data on my computer & paused the security but still no luck. Any suggestions would be very grateful. Can't work out why I can open Gale but not Aussie papers.

thanks
Jane

Good Morning
I am not an Expert at Australian Newspapers and I do have problems visiting them on Trove website but this morning it was fine .
Here is a list of results for the Sydney Herald
https://trove.nla.gov.au/search/advanced/category/newspapers?keyword=sydney%20herald&sortBy=dateDesc&l-title=35

And my Library Computer on google chrome works when I click on the article.

Thanks Cinderdrinker

I don't have problems with Trove SMH up to 1954, I don't need to log in searching this site.

It's the National Library of Australia - Eresources. When I log in (See attached example) I can open the 1st paper but not the Sydney papers.

The Sunday Times Digital Archive 1822-2021

**The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age : library edition
**The Sydney Morning Herald Archives 1955-1995

Is it because I am trying to open it up on a computer. These days companies want you to see everything through an APP which I loathe.

thanks
Jane

I use the eresources a lot, including the SMH and Age. I've had no trouble accessing them. Perhaps it's your system? I use a Linux operating system (fedora) and firefox as a browser.

Just checked, and all working as usual. I do get this message "You’ve enabled HTTPS-Only Mode for enhanced security, and a HTTPS version of archives.smh.com.au.rp.nla.gov.au is not available." but then continue to the site anyway and it works fine.

Thanks Maddys52

I use Chrome so I downloaded Firefox & it works, strange!!!. I was having withdrawal symptoms not being able to open up SMH papers. I did try Duckduckgo browser a couple of weeks ago but that was the same as chrome.

thanks so much

It's my understanding that some newspapers have not been digitised beyond 1954.

Some browsers work better than others. When I was working in a library, we suggested the customer use a different browser if they had trouble accessing a site.

That is true for trove, however the eResources of the Australian National Library (accessable to everyone with a membership card) include other newspapers such as the Sydney Morning Herald from 1955 to today (with a gap between 1995 and 2006).

Also NewsBank which gives  access to "over 7,000 news sources from over 200 countries and territories."
