Does this have any other interesting facts I'm missing or is it a bald statement that John owes Geoffrey?

The plea is that he should pay him the 40 shillings he owes him.  The defendant didn't show up.  I'm not sure about the final bit. I think it says the sheriff was instructed to arrest him, and he was ordered to appear there in October.

The final bit …

… the sheriff was ordered to summons him; the sheriff reports that he has nothing etc.;* and therefore he is to be arrested so that he is here within the Octave of the Purification of the Blessed Mary [2 Feb]

          * i.e. nothing within the sheriff’s jurisdiction that could be distrained for the debt

Thank you both for your excellent contributions to this. I guessed that the small amount of text said very little.

I am so impressed that there are people willing to be so helpful.

A very happy New Year to you
