« on: Sunday 21 January 24 08:07 GMT (UK) »
As i have come to a complete dead end, does anyone have the surname Hale/Hail/Hailes in their travelling ancestors. Looking at circa 1800 or a bit earlier.
kind regards from Heather

There is a section at the bottom of each page "Surnames Index" - you may find Hale/Hailes listed and other researching.

A bit later than you wanted but the surnames index in Robert Dawson's Romany in the Family lists Hale/Hail 1861-1891, so census entries, in BDF, GLS, MDX, Midlands, WRC and YKS.

Sometimes finding members of the wider family in later censuses can give a clue to earlier generations.
Gypsy DRAPERs, children of Billy and Mary - Ellen,Darnity,Spencer,Billy Jnr,Kisby,Ellick
Descendants of Fred and Esther (Garrett) WHITLOCK - Wavendon, Woburn Sands area
Descendants of George and Barbara (Willis) SUTTON - Earls Barton and Nether Heyford
BISSELL - Hanslope, New Bradwell, Bucks and Aston, Birmingham area
Lavinia DRAPER died 1840 Cranfield
Gypsies in the Bow Brickhill and Beds/Bucks border areas
