baptism of an Elizabeth Fenton to match age on burial

North Leverton 29 Nov 1789 Elizabeth daughter of Henry & Elizabeth Fenton, dob 6 Nov 1789

Burial same parish 19 Nov 1838 Henry Fenton 72

I think the 1827 03 18   William   FLETCHER   63   SOUTH LEVERTON All Saints might be right?

I had assumed it was a William Fletcher born around 1794 and married an Elizabeth Fenton in 1815, making him 21, however as you say, its possible there was a much bigger age difference. Apparently William was a labourer so I would not have expected him to have travelled far?

William Fletcher (South Leverton) 1794 -????
Married Elizabeth Fenton (North Leverton) 1789-1823?

Is there any reason you've assued this 1823 burial, when there's another possible burial in the 1840s, and a child baptised in 1830 to a widowed Elizabeth?

Equally, as before, I think it's dangerous to assume that your William was b 1794 without more (any?) proof.

On the subject of possible large age differences, check out the censuses for William Fletcher b 1815,South Leverton (the oldest son of William and Elizabeth). In 1861, William was 45;his wife Jane was 21! So it's not impossible to think that William andElizabeth (the parents of this William and of the OPs ancetor Samuel) may equally have had a large age gap.

Ah - I've just seen other South Leverton baptisms for William and elizabeth:

1815 08 20      William
1819 04 18      Sarah
1821 09 16      John
1824 07 18      Samuel     (your ancestor)
1830 11 11      Charles      FLETCHER   Elizabeth      Widow

So that implies that William and Elizabeth married before 1815, and obviously that William died between 1824 - 1830. So maybe that 1827 burial is the right one?

just to add that most of these children died:

burials
1821 12 12   Sarah FLETCHER    age 2      SOUTH LEVERTON All Saints
1831 05 29   John   FLETCHER     age 9   SOUTH LEVERTON All Saints
1831 06 09   Charles FLETCHER    Inf   SOUTH LEVERTON All Saints

I think it was because it was the only William I could find around that era and thought it was him. I think the below looks most likely looking at it:

Elizabeth FLETCHER age 53
Burial date   15 Oct 1843
abode   South Leverton

South Leverton All Saints
William FLETCHER  age 63
Burial date   18 Mar 1827
abode   South Leverton

Just need to try and find out who Williams parents are, I had though him a bastard and that was the end of the line, which might not be the case now!

Yes I think you are right, I had assumed William was born around 1794 and a bastard of Eliz (Fletcher?)
