What sort of a "place" would you have it done?  Would it be a "posh" art studio or a travelling salesman or?  Would it be expensive? What sort of date were these common?

Given the material and equipment needed, it would have to be made in a studio/workroom. In relation to time - since forever

A death mask would not have open eyes.
There is one if Chopin in Manchester’s Central Library.

We have ascertained that it's not a death mask, Viktoria. Japeflakes has been asking about the various ways that sculptural  portraits, etc, are made.  As I did do sculpture (many years ago)  as part of a Fine Art degree, I have been explaining the various processes involved.
