Your post is somewhat confusing

What kind of “death notice”.  Do you mean a death certificate?

William Cloy - son of who?  Agnes or Anthony?

Where do Robert & Elizabeth Cloy fit in relation to Guffie?

If I have got hold of the right end of the stick.

Elizabeth Cloy died aged 80 on the 1st December 1870 at Craichmore, Leswalt. She was the widow of Robert Cloy (deceased) occupation Labourer.

Her father was an Anthony M' Guffie (deceased) occ Farmer

Her mother was Agnes M'Guffie (deceased) maiden name Campbell.

William Cloy was her son who was the informant of the death.

I believe the M' Guffie is an abbreviation for either Mc/Mac Guffie.

Quote from my last post "William Cloy was her son who was the informant of the death".

William Cloy died aged 63 of heart disease on the 28th October 1889 in the parish of Stoneykirk, Wigton. His occupation was a Farm Overseer, his wife was Jessie Davidson.

His father was a Robert Cloy occ Groom(deceased).

His mother was Elizabeth Cloy maiden surname McGuffolk

His son Anthony Cloy was the informant of his death.

Anthony and his Family appear in 1861 census.

Anthony appears on 1939 war register in Carlisle, and probable death below.

The "Mac" prefix can be written (taking as an example "Donald"):
Macdonald (in block caps: MACDONALD)
MacDonald (MacDONALD)
McDonald (McDONALD) or
M'Donald (still pronounced like the restaurant chain, but the apostrophe indicates the missing "c", when spelled).

All thee spellings are pronounced exactly the sa

McGuffie (or M'Guffie) is a name fihguring in my own genealogy for the area of the Machars in Wigtownshire, hence my interest.
