Flushing RSD
« on: Monday 22 January 24 10:58 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching a great aunt that was born in Flushing in the 1880s. The father was a royal marine who was on a two year assignment to HMS Ganges, a training ship for boys. The birth certificate states the address Flushing RSD. I just wondered if anyone knows what that means or has any information about HMS Ganges from that time.

Thanks for any guidance anyone can offer.

HMS Ganges was based at Mylor Harbour near Falmouth from 1865 to 1899.

Thank you all! That's a great start. I'm currently researching her father and it's interesting to know a little more about the time in Cornwall. The Ganges info is really interesting - I was aware that there was something of a dark past.

I was wondering about the Christening - all 6 other children were christened in St Georges Stonehouse too. What was the source of the christening info please?
