Having seen the whole page it's clear that, as Arthur has said, baptisms and 'churchings ('gave thanks') have been recorded in the one register.

Looking at the burials section of the same register, it's clear the numbers are money - there is a £ sign at the top and there are no numbers where it says 'poor'.

They were charging for something.

Are you sure these are burials - they're all women, and men tended to die too. Note the mate's rates for the sexton's wife...  ???
