Thomas Richards b 1812 Pantglas Uchaf, Llancadwalader
« on: Tuesday 23 January 24 08:13 GMT (UK) »
Thomas was the son of Edward Richards, a church warden.
He married Elizabeth Jones in 1834.
He may have lived in Llanarmon MM or Llanrhaeadr YM after that.
He committed a crime and was transported to Australia 1940.
Can anyone help me find out his crime and transportation details?
Many thanks 🙏

There is an entry for a Thomas Richards, 25, in the Denbighshire Criminal Records, Quarter Sessions held on 4 August 1840. Crime was Larceny and was  sentenced to transportation, 7 years.

He seems to have been recorded for similar crimes earlier as there is a similar entry in June that year when he was sentenced to imprisonment.

Add - two earlier entries (1824 and 1838)  for Larceny but not sure if this was the same person. The 1838 one was of a similar age.

More or Less, LM.

I was a little perplexed as to why the details were repeated, with no ref to my findings.

There should be something in Welsh Newspapers Online but I'm away for  a while.  I'll check when I get back if no one else finds a report in the meantime.

Also,  there is an interesting entry in the 1841. Again, it would need more investigation. There are many Richards in that part of Denbighshire.

Intrigued you should say that c1841 is interesting as I cannot find Elizabeth, Thomas nor any of their 3 children Charles (b 1835),Eliza (b 1838) and Job (b Jan 1841)  ::)
