« on: Wednesday 24 January 24 15:22 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out some more details on Gt Gt Gt Grandparents, Honor & Owen Cahill married in Galway in 1866.

Honor's maiden name was Mannion. I believe she was born in 1834

Any help would be very appreciated.

Welcome!

I had a look. There are a surprising number of Honor Manions!

I did see reference to a Child of a couple with the same names. Mary who was born in 1834 to Owen Cahill and Honor Manion in Dublin. If true Honor would be born closer to 1800-1815.

Worth looking into. What docs do you have showing the 1866 wedding of Owen & Honor?

I ask because I see reference to this document:

Quote
Honor Mannion
Ireland Marriages, 1619-1898

    Birth: 1834
Marriage: May 24 1866 - Roman Catholic Chapel Of Fuerty, Athleague District, Roscommon, Ireland
    Husband: Owen Hester
    Father: John Mannion

Wondering if you are looking for Owen Hester that married Honor Mannion or Owen Cahill that much earlier married Honor Mannion pre-1834 (around Dublin)?

By 1864 all marriages should be found in the civil records but I can't find one in 1866 for Owen Cahill & Honor Mannion. Since they were apparently married in 1866 the child baptised in 1834 must belong to another couple with the same combination of names.

Here's the Owen Hester wedding in 1866.

It says Honor was a widower

Confusing the issue is the sheer volume of women named honor at the time.

The 1866 marriage, which I had seen, was for an Honor Mannion to an Owen Hester (not Owen Cahill as in title of this thread). Hester Mannion is a widow and Owen Hester is a widower.

That marriage was in Roscommon though and not Galway.

Alan, just keeping with the first couple you found. For those with a subs, there is an Ancestry family tree here www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/10003145/person/24438079137/facts

From this, Mary was married twice three times. First marriage to Alfred J Elton in 1851 in Pembrokeshire. Original marriage cert shows her father Owen as a soldier.

2nd marriage in 1866 in Poplar, England to a Frederick Joshua Elton.

3rd marriage in 1873 in Croydon to a William Potter.

I think we need confirmation of details again from 'HonorOwen' to know where to take this best.

Banns were read but they didn't marry.

In 1861  1871 Mary is a widow in Whitechapel at a home for homeless men, women and children.  She has two children with her, Frederick aged 6 and Catherine aged 4.

Right under the birth of Mary Cahill:

There is a wedding for the same Mary in 1873.
She marries a John Gartland.

Also, on familysearch when you search for Honor Manion in Galway the name makes several court appearances over a 30 year period. Sometimes as a defendant ...a complainant and as a witness. Not sure if it's one person.
