Frederick Vertham buried 14 Aug 1796, Winchester
« on: Thursday 25 January 24 13:13 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching the above and wondered whether anyone would be able to look up his burial for me.

There is a transcript on FindMyPast and Ancestry for Frederick which says he was buried at St Lawrence, Winchester, on 14 Aug 1796. Hampshire have added their BMD original records to Ancestry, however the copy of that original page is unreadable.

Given that a transcript exists, someone must have ben able to read the original at some time. I'm just trying to find out whether the burial provides any additional information.

Many thanks

It's on Ancestry transcribed as Ventham & is readable.  All it says is as follows

August 14th Frederick Ventham was buried

All other entries on the same page have the same wording

Thank you so much, Carole. Very strange, my view of that page is unreadable - gremlins at work, perhaps :)

The readable entry is transcribed as being at Winchester St Maurice, Hampshire, England

ADDED
I have just gone back to image 2 in the register where it does say St Maurice

Thanks Rosie. I've got it now - wrong church which explain why I couldn't see it.

Under 'England Select Deaths and Burials' it give his name as Frederick Vertham, buried at St Lawrence, Winchester - so they have the wrong spelling on Ancestry & FindMyPast and wrong church :)

"England Select Deaths and Burials" was created by Family Search.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks Bumble. I've just found his baptism and he's not the right person, so back to the drawing board :(
