Problem finding a 2x great aunt
« on: Saturday 27 January 24 15:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I'm trying to find what happened to some ancestors where I've come up against a brick wall and I'm hoping some 'fresh eyes' maybe able to help!

The one I'm looking for at the moment is my 2x great aunt Rosina Thompson. What I do know is:

Born: 1869 Bedminster, Bristol
Baptised: 26th March 1870 Bedminster
Father: Edward Thompson
Mother: Elizabeth Hanford

The last document I found her in was the 1891 census, living with her parents, Victoria Road, Bristol. Her father is shown as a licensed victualler. Her occupation was shown as a school teacher, which I hoped would help me, but it hasn't. Her father died 1896 but I've not yet been able to confirm when her mother died.

I've tried to discover if she carried on teaching or married but I've not been able to narrow it down to anyone it could be. I'm probably missing something obvious but would appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction!

Many thanks

Probate entry for Elizabeth Thompson wife of Edward of The Fox Tavern Victoria Road died 1 March 1895.  Administration to Edward licensed victualler.

I think she married a William James PARSLEY (marriage Jul-Sep 1908 Bristol 6a 292) and died 9 Dec 1939.
PARSLEY Rosina of Gladstone Villa Wrington Somersetshire died 9 Dec 1939 (wife of William James Parsley) Probate Bristol 5 Feb 1940 to James Roberts THOMPSON retired superintendent.

I wondered about that one but ruled it out for some reason, will check again.

Birthdate for her is 11 Oct 1866.

If we could find that one in 1901 before marriage it might confirm.

Thank you all!

I've been looking at your suggestions, marrying William Parsley is possible, couldn't find the church marriage record for this on Ancestry where they have Bristol records which is a shame as it would show her father's name which would confirm it.

William has a different wife Mary in 1901 and the daughter in 1911 was hers (theirs)

I can't find any other marriages or deaths between 1891/1901 even using different spellings of the names  :-\

She is not the William Parsley marriage.  That 1866 birth reg shows mmn as Bradbear.  1871 shows parents as James Roberts Thompson & Mary Ann

There is a Rosina Thompson death 1913 Bristol aged 45.  Still looking for a 1911 entry

Maybe yours emigrated after the death of her parents, have you looked on passenger lists for her?

From further research with census and birth records, I think the Rosina who married William Parsley was the daughter of a James Roberts Thompson, so not your one.
