JAMES CHARLES in GOVAN
« on: Saturday 27 January 24 23:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I am trying to find the street that my family were living on.  I have a letter here from Feb 1885 when my GG Uncle was living at 107 Graham St.

I have not found them 1881 Census as yet.  James Charles died in 1886 and his wife an son were living in Elders Park St in 1891.

James states in his letter "We have a public park at our door presented by Mrs Elder of Messrs Elder and Co to the inhabitants of Govan".

James (and son James?) where employed by the Elders company.  Thanks for any help.  Regards Dianna

Okay Got it thanks Dianna

Hi Neale 1961 thank you for that!  I have never seen the Valuation Rolls.

Just an interesting story I am following up on this morning re the wreck of the "Daphne" in Govan in 1883.

There is a list of the men who died and one named ROBERT HUTCHESON died on the 'Daphne" and he was living at 107 Graham Street Govan (married).  Very strange coincidence as the letter I have from my GGUncle has his address as 107 Graham St. Govan in 1885.  They must have moved around a lot in those day's.

Many thanks Dianna

From James death certificate:-
James CHARLES aged 65 death say’s he was a PAUPER (Formerly) Marine Engineer married to Christina Sinclair or Boyd,  died 1886 October 4th GOVAN POORHOUSE lived at 67 Graham St GOVAN  and his son JAMES was the informant.

Therefore number 67 Graham St. matches up with the valuation record.

I'm curious with the Scottish death certificates the burial place/cemetery is not given.  Who could I contact to find out where he is buried.  Perhaps his wife is there too

Thanks Dianna
