Emily Mary Smith baptised 1870 - same details.
The addresses change each time too.
Presumably she died as not in 1871 census.

Yes, you're right with the 1871 census for Thos & Eliz Smith + son Frederick (age 3)

Some of the Smith children were christened in Brighton as C of E & later ones Bp London at SOHO as Catholic.

Children were Alice 1866, Frederick W 1868, Emily M 1870 - all Brighton.
 - Seems Fredric was only one to survive past 12 months.
Next were David R 1873, Ada F 1882 both Bp Catholic at SOHO
Last child Florence B. born 05 Sep 1885, Bp 13 Oct 1885 St Marylebone, then Bp 05 Apr 1886 as Catholic

Don't know how many, or if any, survived as they don't seem to be on census post 1871.

Frustratingly, a real mixup of locations and churches

I've been looking for the Williams kids of David & Mary Ann of Brighton. All OK until Florence sent me in a spin so was hoping the Smith family connection would provide some guidance.

Thanks for your help. It's given me a few different avenues to investigate now.
