Missing KRAUTWIG Family
« on: Sunday 28 January 24 12:08 GMT (UK) »
I've recently found that Florence Harriett.. WILLIAMS married Leopold Peter ...KRAUTWIG in 1883 at Soho, Warwick Street (Bavarian Chapel), Our Lady of the Assumption & St Gregory. A Catholic church in Westminster I understand.

Only sightings after that time are:

Florence Williams was godmother to her niece Ada Florence Mary Smith in 1882 at her baptism.
Florence & Leopold Krautwig were godparents to Florence Beatrice Helen Smith when Bp in 1886.
 - Both the baptisms were at the SOHO church mentioned above.

2 separate newspaper articles mention them - Leopold in 1886 & Florence in 1899. No other sightings. In 1886 address mentioned was Countess Road Kentish Town (London).

Census checking produced no results.

Would appreciate if SKS can see or find them anywhere at anytime post 1883 - even a death notice or maybe immigration??

Many thanks
Fingers crossed  :D

Electoral Registers show Leopold at 33 Countess Road in 1889.

He is not there in 1891 census. 1891/140/156

Is that date correct for the newspaper mention for Florence?
Any further details?
Do you have a year of birth for Florence?

What was given as her residence at time of marriage?  Do you have sight of the marriage record to show fathers name etc, am guessing not  :-\
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Thanks Heywood for checking that address for 1891 census. I'm not sure if I tried & failed or simply failed to try  :P     Been going round in circles with this family

Unfortunately, being a Catholic marriage, it doesn't show ages or place of residence at this time (original at FindMyPast).

But thankfully it does show father's name :
Florence was dau of David (Davidis) Williams
Leopold was son of Henry (Henrici ) Krautwig

My guess is that Florence was born abt 1857 as Harriett Frances Williams of Brighton

The June 15, 1886 "Islington Gazette" reported that Leopold Krautwig, age 32 of Countess Road Kentish Town, was found drunk at half past 12 in the morning (shock horror!!) He was discharged  ;)

The 25 March, 1899  "Marylebone Mercury" reported that "Mrs Florence Krautwig" had discovered the body of a lady who had died abt 10 days previous in an upstairs room in 20 Gosfield Street Marylebone. Coroner's report was rather descriptive  :o

Unfortunately no other info - no death certs or census or children's births.

Thanks for your help & interest in this frustrating puzzle.

The civil record would give you her father’s name etc.

Who are the parents of Ada and Florence, the godchildren?

Florence Brantwey 42   yrs widow Housekeeper Domestic b Brighton, Sussex
