Day family from Axbridge area of Somerset
« on: Tuesday 30 January 24 01:19 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the Day family. Two brothers, Alfred and Albert Day,  sons of Isaac Day from Weare, emigrated to South Australia in 1865.  I am trying to construct a family tree of that family, based on records. I have pretty much exhausted my usual sources e.g. FindMyPast.  What is the best website that allows me access to Somerset BMD information prior to 1865?   Thank you.

When Isaac married Eliza Reed 6 February 1846 he said his father was Daniel.

There is a Daniel Day marries Mary Hardwick 6 July 1799 at Weare as possible parents.
They also had a daughter Jane bap 1 November 1801 as well as the two Isaac's previously mentioned.

Thank you Trish and amondg!
Yes, all the people you have mentioned are as I have on my tree, which is very encouraging!  There are so many Daniel Days and most of them are married to someone named Mary!
Trish thank you for reminding me about FreeREG.  I have used it some years ago but had forgotten about it.
Sue.

Have you contacted the Somerset Archive also known as The South West Heritage Trust?

They have many wills and estate papers it may help sort out the Daniel's!

ADDED

They have Probate of Daniel Day senior of Weare 1821
Ref: DD/ED/1821/83

It may be his father you never know. I suggest you get a copy and see the family members mentioned.

There is a Daniel Day of Weare, Yeoman who was the administrator of the will of John Ham 1814

Thank you again, amondg!

I will contact the South West Heritage Trust.

There are at least 5 successive Daniels, so who is Senior and who is Junior depends on where you are in that pedigree, I guess.  I do have a Daniel Day who was buried on 1 Feb 1820, so I will check that one out.

Your mention of John Ham is interesting too.  There is a Daniel Day married to Elizabeth Ham somewhere in this jigsaw, so that could be useful.

Thanks again,  Sue.
