Ancestry Comments
« on: Tuesday 30 January 24 16:07 GMT (UK) »
I have left many comments on other trees on Ancestry. I have just come across one comment I made that the owner of the tree has replied to, also in the comments section. Is there any place on Ancestry I can track my comments and see if they have been replied to please.

I am not aware of any way of finding notification of replies to comments. It’s pure luck if I find someone has replied, it’s especially frustrating if they have asked a question or for further information.

I too am not aware of anything.

We keep our trees Private and totally ignore an other tree.

Over the years zero point in adding comments they never get responded to.

I don't think there is anyway you can track your replies to your comments most people don't reply so really a waste of time
I vaguely remember years ago you got notified if someone did make a comment but that doesn't happen anymore

Not necessarily a waste - only if you are asking a question.  If you are simply pointing out an anomaly in their tree you hope that they will make amendments but don't need an acknowledgement.  I use the system for this - it does help change some incorrect thrulines.

I misunderstood at first! I always message people and that way I get notifications when they reply.

There doesn't seem to be anything very helpful here:

Ever since some idiot “borrowed” an inage I had posted on my tree of a specific relation and when I found that they had assigned the image to the wrong person in their tree.

I sent a message and flagged the error and zilch, nothing. As far as I’m aware the error is there and has been compounded by others using it against the wrong person in their trees.

Other flagged comments have also gone uncorrected.

So yeah, if anyone does flag up a tree do set Low Expectations of a response.

I think it is still worth adding comments, they may be helpful to others viewing the tree even if the tree owner does not acknowledge them.
