Martha Lane (Ellanes) census
« on: Tuesday 30 January 24 21:52 GMT (UK) »
Martha Lane seams to be known by Martha E Lane, Martha Ellane and Martha Ellanes.
Martha was born in 1855,1856 circa according to the first census I have found,
census 1860
Household   Role   Sex   Age   Birthplace
Dusham Lane      M   31   Tennessee   Farmer

William Lane      M   9   Louisiana
Martha Lane      F   5   Texas
Benjamine Lane      M   4   Texas
John Lane      M   1   Texas

I can then find her in the census 1870
Name   Derrel Lane
Sex   Male
Age   40
Birth Year (Estimated)   1830
Birthplace   Tennessee
Race   White
Relationship to Head of Household   Head
Event Type   Census
Event Date   1870
Event Place   Justice Precinct 1, Upshur, Texas, United States
Event Place (Original)   Precinct 1, Upshur, Texas, United States
Household Identifier   293
Line Number   40
Page Number   40
Affiliate Publication Number   M593
Affiliate Name   The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
Susan Lane  F  30 Tennessee
Riley Lane  F 17 Texas
Franklin Lane  M  10  Texas
John Lane  M  9  Texas
Davis Lane M 2 Texas

I have not been able to find her after that.
she marries in Oct 1890 Waco Texas to William Douglas.
I think that the census in the states is take in June, so one would think that she should be there under her maiden name.
Marth then dies in 1896.

The 1890 census is mostly unavailable. The population schedules were damaged in a fire in the basement of the U.S. Department of Commerce building in Washington, D.C. in 1921.

What exact name does she have then?

Pick - Frocester Glos

This family from the 1880 census seems to match the family from 1860 as far as the parents, their place of birth, and son John, but Martha was not there.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFN4-7V8  She would have been around age 25, so maybe she (and the other adult children) were living somewhere else.

thanks for your replies.
After Oct 1890 she goes under the name of Martha Douglas - also spelt Douglass in the States., and dies in 1896.

I think the question was what name she had at the time of the marriage, to rule out if she was married to someone else in the interim.  Do you have a marriage record?

yes I have the marriage record, and she was a Miss Martha Lane at the time of marriage.
One of the names in the 1880 census you have posted is spelt incorrect, but that doesn't matter. :)

there appears to be two new children.  so Alonzo and Mary A would be correct. Davis age   around 12 not there. So that would make it correct. :)
