I am not confident that the plantation manager Alexander Smith is the right man.
I was thinking that a "house carpenter" doesn't easily become a plantation manager. The correct father might have been doing military service when his son was born in Demerara.

Yes. I do agree. But cannot so far see any other Alexander Smith.
Also John M. Smith, if he is indeed Alexander’s brother, mucks it up.

On the other hand, the property transferred to James Alexander Smith in1861……. I don’t see another James Alexander Smith yet either.
