The Belfast Newsletter - look up please
« on: Friday 02 February 24 04:54 GMT (UK) »
I'm hoping someone could look up the "The Belfast Newsletter" for Monday Morning, 8th August 1859.

I've seen a copy on Ancestry but cannot read most of it as it's too smudged.

DEATH 27 Apr 1859 for Rachel Watson... [at Collingwood, Melbourne]

Many thanks.

Oh dear, it’s very blurry isn’t it.

I see

April 29 at Collingwood, Melbourne, Rachel, wife of John Watson Esq.
Daughter-in-law of the late John ……… Esq F…….. and daughter of the late W, …………

Presume you have seen the report of the inquest and death notice on Trove.

Rachel Gilmour, daughter of William Gilmour of Ballyvelton near Coleraine, County Londonderry, Ireland, born 6 July 1819 (according to an online tree) married first (1841) at Terrace Row Presbyterian Church, Coleraine to Robert Sawyers & had family.

Gilmours of Ballyvelton said to be connected to Gilmours the jewellers in Coleraine (according to Dr. Mullin in his book The Families of Ballyrashane). There also seems to be a connection to Castleroe also outside Coleraine but in the opposite direction from the Ballyrashane district, which includes Ballyvelton.

Castleroe townland to the south of Coleraine.

Ballyvelton Lower townland to the east of Coleraine

Ballyvelton about 4 km to the NE of Castleroe.

LibHastings- not sure what your interest is in the death of Rachel (Gilmour) Watson but I've just been in contact with a descendant of William Gilmour of Ballyvelton who lives in South Africa & is interested in the family history. If you would like me to pass on your contact then send me a PM (personal message)- we aren't allowed to post details like email addresses online.
