Are actual WW1 Service/Pension Records available on Ancestry.co.uk?
« on: Friday 02 February 24 17:17 GMT (UK) »
I've recently been using Ancestry to search for records of my Grandfather and have located what I think is a 'hit' for him in the "WW1 Pension Ledgers and Index Cards" section. However, the result is simply a brief transcription - not an actual service or pension record. I'm not too interested in his Pension, other than to confirm that I've got the correct person. It's his service record I would like.

I've had a look elsewhere on Ancestry but can't find anything. I thought it would be easy as I now have a possible service number for him (but searches boxes don't allow you to specify that, curiously).

Am I expecting too much, or maybe looking in the wrong place? I've previously been able to find an Attestation and service record for him serving in the Boar Boer War, so I expected to be able to see the same thing for his WW1 service.

Any help please? I'm not asking anyone to do this for me, I just want to know how to do it myself, if it's possible. Thanks

60% plus of WW1 service records were destroyed by bombing/fire/water in WW11 so it is a very lucky person who finds their ancestors.

So, did you use the strikethrough icon and replace it with Boer.    :D
