I checked the three sailings of the convict ship
Equestrian to confirm that he was the only John CASEY transported and am happy that the NSW and VDL versions are one and the same person. I have a full narrative for him up until 1862, including all his conviction history from FindMyPast, but have no idea when and how he migrated to NSW. Incidentally, the 1907 death on the balance of probabilities is the correct John CASEY, given the parents, although of course the Death Certificate would be needed to add provenance.
John CASEY is a very popular name and trawling through Trove, while profitable, it is limited by the absence of age, or other personal features, in so many reports/articles to provide absolute identity.
For my general biographical purposes, however, I have more than sufficient information to paint a reasonably accurate picture.
