« on: Saturday 03 February 24 16:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm looking for a notary in London in 1687.
My ancestor (Etienne SOULARD) was in London at this time and I have a letter from a notary in London in a french notarial deed in Paris.
The name of the notary: Nicolas Hayvard ??
Date: 1687, 20th June
Witnesses:
Thomas STONE
Marc or Mark ALDER
Thanks and regards
Patrick

If you are not already familiar with it, Who Was the Scribe of the Radisson Manuscript?, by Germaine Warkentine, contains biographical information about a notary by the name of Nicholas Hayward:

My question is
Do you think I could find anything regarding my ancestor. Marriage for example.
I don't know if its easy to access to the archives of this notary. In Paris it's quite easy
to search on line .

In 1692 a Stephen Soulard is in Broad Street, in the parish of St Peter-Le-Poer paying rent.

I believe Etienne is/was sometimes anglicised to Stephen

But on 8th September 1687 a Stephen Solart was buried in the Vault of St Peter-Le-Poer

(Both these records are on Ancestry.co.uk)

FindMyPast has an indexed record of a naturalisation bill for Stephen Soulard born Saintes, son of Stephen & Mary. 21 Jan 1689

Source Letters of Denization & Acts of Naturalization for Aliens in England & Ireland, 1603-1700 from Publications of The Huguenot Society of London, Vol XVIII

Looks like Stephen Solart and wife Mary were naturalised 16 May 1683. So Mary was his French wife?

Do these seem like they would fit?
When do you think your Etienne would have married? (Approximately)

I knew Etienne was also named Stephen. He was a "bourgeois"
His first wife (french) was Mary BERNARD.(Samuel Bernard' sister)
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Bernard

I believe she died en 1694 (25 mai 1694 :   Décès - London, England, Royaume-Uni
Lieu de sépulture: St Peter Le Poer, City of London).
Stephen is not dead in England. He was born in Saintes around 1656 and died in 1712 at Bordeaux.
Back to France in 1697 with Elizabeth Mackadam (second spouse). Married approximately in England in 1696.
He was send to la Bastille by Louis XIV. ( for a couple of months).
One more detail: he was cousin with David Garrick!!

Décès
The 5th Sept. 1687. —God gave us a boy, who was baptized the 14th of the said month at the Walloon Church. His godfather was Mr. Stephen Pigou marchand, native of the city of Amiens, in Picardy ; his godmother was Madame Mary Bernard of Paris, wife of Mr. Stephen Soulard of London, merchant, who gave him the name of Stephen, whom God bless. Amen. God took him away, Sunday morning, the 28th April, at 7 o'clock, 1689, and was buried at the Post [query, Pest] House, Monday evening, at an hour of six. He lived 19 Dead- months and 24 days.

so who is the one buried in 1687?

You don't think the Stephen who was naturalised in 1689  - son of Stephen & Mary & born in Saintes,  is the one who died in France in 1712? And so is the one married to Elizabeth?

The one buried in 1687 is in The Vault

and so is Mrs SOULLARD buried in 1694

They are a very interesting family!

I just found something right now.
