« on: Saturday 03 February 24 19:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Trying to find more details about our Arthur HAINES

B 12.1.1868 Bap 15.3.1868 Walburton, Sussex to Wiliam & Sarah

He is on 1871 & 1881 C with family in Sussex
Poss he on 1891 C as a Medical Student in Putney, b Sussex
Poss on 1901 C as a Physcian & Surgeon with wife Clarissa E (she b 1870 Australia) & son William Arthur C Haines (b 1899) in Tenbury, Worcs. Arthur b 1869 New Chichester, Sussex! (never heard of this)

Can't find anything about Clarissa (b Australia) or their m (presumably before 1899) & no further details on the couple
Son William A C m Doris I V Wallace 1925 Marylebone, London etc

There is a poss d/bur for our Arthur in Australia - d/bur 3.8.1941 b 1871 Walburton, Sussex
His wife is Alice Graham Murray b Tenbury, Worcs 1875 d Australia 1935 - her C details or m not found in England
Children on bur details:
Son - Arthur Graham Haines b 1908 - not found in England
Dau - Barbara Helen Haines b 1913 - not found in England
No mention of William A C Haines b 1899 Tenbury (above)

Some coincidences (Tenbury & Walburton) some not (wives & kids) - Is this our Arthur throughout or 2 different families? - no other Arthur Haines b Walburton, Sussex can be found within quite a few years either side of 1868
Did he poss m twice?

Any help would be appreciated

On GRO website son Arthur has the mothers maiden name as REED.

Marriage that could match.

  William Haines
EUPHEMIA CLARISSA REED  in Newark reg district in 1896.

Thanks

I assume you mean Arthur Haines m Euphemia Clarissa REED 1896 Newark, Lincs and they had a son William A C Haines. I wonder how that sits with Arthur's poss d/bu of 1941 & his wife Alice?

Yes you said you could not find a marriage for this couple. So you now need a corresponding death for a Clarissa or Euphemia.

Might be a total coincidence but there's a Claris Haines aged 65 who arrives in Liverpool in 1936 from Bombay. Occupation nurse. Address - Lloyds Bank, Tenbury

Confusingly there is a Clarisa [sic] E Haines, married,  in Brighton in 1939 running a boarding house. She's b 1879 and has a Harold with her, of a similar age

Claris Haynes, b 1870, married, trained nurse, is listed in Hailsham

Our Arthur Haines is also a Doctor, b in England - as I mentioned. The bur details on Find my past state he was 70 in 1871 b in Walburton - the newspaper article is short on destail. There are no other Arthur Haines b in Walburton at that toem. It also mentions 2 children as I again menrioned 1 born  1908 1 in 1913 & poss one b in 1899 - w poss wives

The article fails to mention his wife, whch, according to the bur details, was Alice Graham Murray b Tenbury. If our Arthur is the same man as in the article & on the bur details and in the 1901 C, where do Alice & Euphemia Clarice fit in ?

When the son William A C Haines marries, he gives his occupation as AC Police, federated Malay states

His RAF records from WWI list Dr Haines, father as the person to be informed of casualty. Address given is in Pinner, but it's a bit unclear whether that's for him or his father. There's another address in Summersdown, Chichester

I'm getting a feeling his parents split up - whether before or after they left the UK I'm not sure
