William Barber - Birth Record
« on: Sunday 04 February 24 01:53 GMT (UK) »
**Sorry I just realised I posted this in the wrong section - can this be moved please**
Good afternoon,

I am having trouble finding a birth record and proof of parents for William Barber.
This is the information I know so far:
Death: 11 June 1932, Barossa Rest Home, Main Road, New Town, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, aged 70.

Burial:13 Jun 1932 • Cornelian Bay Cemetery, New Town, Tasmania, Australia
Grave location - Area or denomination: Church of England Section: R Site number: Number 130.

Marriage: 26 Nov 1895 Esperance, Tasmania to Elizabeth Bennett (nee Watkins) - aged 32.

Issue: Tasman Frederick Barber (1896-1971).

Birth: In Tasmania.

This makes his estimated year of birth between 1862 and 1863.

There are trees, with his parents being William Barber and Mary Entree; however, I have not been able to find proof of this.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Hi,
Thank you for your reply and the link to the record.

My concern with this is that it is possible that they are the correct people, but I am not convinced without a name or any other evidence to link it. Is there anything in that document that you found that could be useful in trying to find a link?

Thank you again :)

PS I used the report to moderator button; thanks ;)

Other children to this couple seem to be:

21 July 1854  William (William, fisherman and Mary nee McENTEE) Hobart (died 23 Oct 1854)
8 Nov 1855  John (William, fisherman and Mary nee MCENTEE, Lower Collins St), Hobart
9 Jan 1858  Susan (William, waterman and Mary nee McENTEE, of Campbell St) Hobart
24 Sept 1859  unnamed male  (William, fisherman and Mary nee McENTEE of Old Wharf) Hobart

The image of the birth registration doesn't really show any other information.

Doesn't really help - there is a report of a William BARBER, fisherman aged 72 admitted to hosptial in 1886. So born c1816.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/169161059  (3rd column, middle)

William BARBER (34, waterman) married Mary McENTEE (22) 23 Aug 1852 in Hobart. Witnesses were Patrick and Mary RILEY.

Do you have any marriage or death notices for your William BARBER that my mention siblings or other relations?

Modified to add:
I see the witnesses at the marriage of William BARBER and Elizabeth BENNETT were Henrietta DRISCOLL and Herbert SMITH. Not much help.

Lovely obituary for your William BARBER, shame it doesn't mention his childhood, parents or siblings

Btw, if you search trove using terms such as "bill barber", limiting to Tasmania, there are a number of nice items mentioning him, many of him singing at functions, and this one about his career:

That's a good find Sue.  :D

There are a number of items about brother John BARBER (fisherman) in 1881 and an incident involving his partner James MADDEN. Also mentions Samuel GRUNDY  - Susan BARBER married Samuel GRUNDY in 1879. Unfortunately I can't readily see a link in the papers between either of these and William BARBER.

Modified to add:
For interest: One of Susan GRUNDY's children was named "Bill"
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/27134558 (death notice of Susan's daughter Mary Elizabeth GRUNDY in 1953)
