Locating a grave in Dalbeth Cemetery
« on: Sunday 04 February 24 07:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I wonder if it's possible for some kind soul to locate and pinpoint of the cemetery map where my ancestors are buried?
Our son is travelling home for the first time in May and I'd like him to be able to visit his ancestors and know his roots.
I've only ever been there once and from the building in the background (brewery) in my photo I went to google maps and tried to spot it without luck. I do know that it is not far from the entry point. It was on the right hand side as we drove in.
Appreciate any help and hope the weather isn't to chronic over there. If it is then disregard this post.
Kind Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin

I believe the grave is in Section "West Plot". The lair no. is 119. This is just by the main road and next to Dewar's. Have a look at the map for the cemetery here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=678193.0

Just a point to note....The actual death date for Maud McCauley from her death reg does not match the date showning on the gravestone. She died on 23 November 1967 (the stone is showing 1969).

Similarly, husband Daniel actually died on 31 May 1943 not 1945.

You likely have the correct dates for their deaths but thought to mention in case you didn't have this info.

If you use street view to run along London Road, the cemetery is to the left of the Dewar's building. If you keep going slowly along the road till you get to the start of the cemetery, you can clearly see the white statute of Our Lady. She stands out like a beacon!

Section West Plot will be in front of her, the grave looks to be some rows in front. You have lots of readable large gravestones in the background to help your son locate their grave.

Hi GlasGuy was at St Peters Dalbeth today for my mothers interment if you follow the map to the x and looking at the picture between the sign post and the large Bow headstone about 2 or 3 yards on the left is your grave location very easy to find as MonicaL has indicated.

Sorry for your loss, Garngad.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi all,

My sincerest condolences to you garngad & many thanks for helping me, now I'm going to feel much more at ease sending him to St Peter's since he only has 3 days in Glasgow.

I'm extremely humbled for all the help I've received.

Thank you.
