Wigan England McDonough Family

Hi.  Our McDonough family moved from Ireland to Wigan England before 1861.  Of course, the spelling of the family name is quite varied in the church and civil records in Wigan.  My great-grandfather worked in the coal mines.  My grandfather, Francis, came to Wilkes-Barre in Northeast PA to work in the coal mines in 1886.  We have tried for years to try to trace the family from Wigan back to Ireland with no success.  Does anyone know any resources that might help us find out where they came from in Ireland?  So far, DNA results are only connecting us to McDonough descendants in England.  Thank you!
