Diary weekend ending 11th February

My recipe in the little book ,
1 Cup porridge oats .
1Cup Brown sugar.
1 Cup  coconut .
4 ozs Flour (does not say plain or SR.)
2Table Spoons  syrup.
4ozs Marge.
1tea spoon Bicarb.
Mix all dry ingredients together .
Melt Marge and syrup together ,add everything else and mix well.
Form into walnut size balls.
Bake on a greased tray in an oven at 180 C, for 20 minutes.

No mention of water.
I might make some next event at Church.

I keep seeing articles about Lunar New Year, which it seems is what we've always referred to as Chinese New Year. Why the change? Have we been offending the Chinese people? Or is it just another of those things that they can't seem to leave alone?

Just popping in briefly to throw in a couple of comments …. Viktoria, I would use butter rather than margarine in that recipe, (but I am a butter fiend) and presumably plain flour rather than sr flour.

Roobarb, Calling it Lunar New Year has crept in here too where it used to be called “Chinese” NY. Living in an area with a huge Chinese population, I can’t see them ever being offended by this. Other countries also celebrate at this time, so the term Lunar New Year is coming into use to include them as well, (though I don’t think any non Chinese would have been offended either).

Yes, I had wondered about 'Lunar New Year' instead of Chinese New Year,  too Roobarb.

I'd been boggled by "Lunar New Year", too. Glad I wasn't alone in being baffled.

Thanks Ruskie, I can imagine whatever the results they will still be delicious —- a soggy delicious mess or a tooth breaking crispy one.
However other recipes do state butter .
I will follow the one that has been quoted on RC,but no water perhaps.
