The Relatives claiming it is him but he was Cpl 106108 of 19th Kite Balloon who left 20th Pals in 1917 to RFC
Would he have had a Medal Ribbon strip from his Boer War time?

As you can see, the man in the photo was a Sergeant.

RAF records show that W A Unsworth 106108 transferred to the RFC as a Corporal and remained a Corporal until his death.

I suppose it's possible that he had previously been a Sergeant and had lost a stripe for some reason.

..and yes, he would have been entitled to wear the ribbons of his Boer War medals (was he 5498, South Lancs Regiment?).

Has a Wound stripe too so maybe on casualty reports somewhere they were introduced August 1916

He was wounded on 31 July 1916 while with Kings (Liverpool) Regiment 23988 (per RAF records), GSW to shoulder, shell shock.

 he was 5498 but Puzzle is this Sgt Photo that the Family have as the Records don't mention Sgt ever

What happened 13 March 1917 ?

Would he have been allowed leave back to Liverpool?  As his Wife became Pregnant with their Daughter born 9 months later
