THOMAS LAWLESS WW! 1917
« on: Tuesday 06 February 24 20:10 GMT (UK) »
THOMAS  LAWLESS died on 5 Nov 1917 after serving with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Aged just 18, he was the son of Michael and Dora Lawless of Ballymurrin Upper, Co Wicklow. In 1911 the family were at that location -father Michael, mother Dora, and siblings John, Peter, Laurence, Mary Ellen, Sarah and Annie. Thomas died at Ballymurrin Upper from TB contracted on war service.
His mother Dora died at Ballymurrin Upper on 3 Mar 1926.
Thomas' death was attributable to his war service but, like many others, he was never commemorated as a war casualty.
Does anyone know where Thomas Lawless is buried? Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried finding any newspaper reports on the place of burial for his mother Dora in 1926?

According to the 1911 census, they were Roman Catholic.

Because he died of Military Service he would have been due a CWGC Military Headstone erected on his Burial
But the CWGC Record has him Not Buried but Commemorated on Brookwood Cemetery Memorial
That Cemetery is for Personnel that Died within its Boundary of London
I would say as he died of TB he may well of been Cremated not Buried otherwise the CWGC would know where he was Buried to erect his Headstone but none due but Commemorated on the Memorial instead.

As the first crematorium in Ireland only opened in recent years, Thomas would have been buried not cremated as he died in Ireland.

...and the first crematorium in the Republic of Ireland opened at Glasnevin cemetery in 1982.
