« on: Wednesday 07 February 24 17:39 GMT (UK) »
William Richardson, a marine engineer, born 1820 Bishop Auckland Durham was in Spain in 1861, where the first child of his second marriage to Hannah was born. Here is the record.

What is the street name ?

How can I find out what he was doing there. By 1864 they are back in England (next child born Plumstead Kent).

Seville had a strong commercial relationship with the UK. As a marine engineer William may have been involved with UK shipping concerns in Seville. In the 1851 census, he’s described as “Inspecting Engineer”. As such, he may have been in Seville on behalf of UK ship-owners.

Thanks. Interesting to know there were links to UK interests. Not had to research in Spain before!
Are there any newspapers of that date online?

Do you mean UK or Spanish newspapers?
For the UK try the BNA: https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/
Find My Past UK also has a newspaper collection. You can view images if you have their Pro or Premium subscription.

As for historical (online) Spanish newspapers I don't know what's available.

When did William Richardson pass away? I notice that he's not in the 1881 census with his family.

I was really looking for Spanish papers. Not sure when he died. I think he is possibly at sea in 1881 as wife says married rather than widow. She died 1884. Unfortunately he has a common name.

Do you have his wife's death certificate? If she's described as "widow" you'll know that William Richardson died before her death in 1884. That would help narrow down a search for his death.
