It's a 1905 pattern field service cap.

Thought so about then and wanted reassure.
Still on the same case as yesterday who transferred from the 20th Pals King's Liverpool to the Royal Flying Corps in 1917  Balloon Unit after his GSW in 1916
The Family had this Photo as him in 1900 when he was in the Boer War with the South Lancs Regt aged 18 and I knew that couldn't be right period.
He was in Boer War then India but not in that Cap.
Can't still explain that Sgt Photo 1917 which doesn't even look like him. Obviously someone he knew in RFC with previous Service Medals Ribbons
Just got a Shock when Ancestry gave me a Hint of his Soldiers Effects Pay arrears with the RAF and His War Gratuity
