Help neded with Mary Rudd's parents.
« on: Thursday 08 February 24 02:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I have been pondering if I should ask about this person as I have little concrete detail but I decided to try.

So:-
 Name : Mary Rudd
Mother: Ann Rudd... source Marriage record --  St James Parish Register, Bury Saint Edmonds, Norfolk  1562-1800.
Marriage:  7th June  1764-1765.   [ Presume it would be 1764] source as above.
      Spouse named:  John Brundell
Witnesses: John Mornement and Bartholomew Rudd.
Further from the marriage :  both single, both of this parish,  Licence granted.  Mother of Mary gave concent thereto.

Ann Rudd was a widow .

I do not know who Bartholomew Rudd was.  There are thoughts but nothing concrete.  however he isn't Ann Rudds husband given she was a widow.
I suspect that John Mornement was ,probably Mary's brother-in-law, but I have nothing to prove this.
If that is correct, he was born in 1736 and I have most of his records and family.

I am building this part of my tree sideways and it just isn't making sense at present.

Any Info on Mary's birth and parents would be a massive step forward.

 Thank you for looking.

Just some random things to start

Ann RUDD was a widow of STRADBROKE

in 1757 an Ann RUDD married John MORNEMENT at Stradbroke so is that the John who is a witness for Mary RUDD? so as. you say perhaps  Ann & Mary are sisters

19 July 1766 Ann RUDD widow married at Stradbroke to William GIRLING

15 Feb. 1763  Bartholomew RUDD married at Stradbroke to Anne BURGESS

a will for Bartholomew RUDD Innholder of Stradbroke 1763

https://nrocatalogue.norfolk.gov.uk/index.php/rudd-bartholomew-innholder-of-stradbroke-suffolk

Burial index says Bartholomew was 54 so born about 1709 -
But if he died 1763 he cannot be the witness in 1764

That will might be useful. see link reply #4

Oh, I’ve had a thought…

Is Anne Rudd who gives permission for Mary to marry actually her stepmother, Anne nee Burgess?

I’ve just found a fuller transcript which says Ann is the natural & lawful mother

Marriage licence - Bartholomew Rudd of Stradbrook 10 July 1738 to Ann Watling of Wilby  (Wiley is the next village to Stradbroke.

there an Ann RUDD burial 21 May 1740 at Stradbroke.  So she cannot be Mary’s mother (if Mary born c 1744)  nor the authoriser of her wedding!

Bartholomew who died 1763 -  will here Image 1179 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6SL3-NM6?i=1178&cat=410095

Wife Ann
children Bartholomew, Susan & Mary
My daughter Ann, the wife of John Monument

In view of the fact there is a daughter Susan,
I wonder if the burial of Susanh Rudd age 37 at Stradbroke 4 June 1755 is pertinent.

Still cannot see the baptisms of Susan, Bartholomew, Mary or Ann. But their father was definitely Bartholomew.

I wonder if the 1763 marriage of Bartholomew is the son.
And he dies in 1772 buried 4 Dec age 31 so born about 1741
Then an Ann Rudd Widow married in 1773 to James Peterson   (All Stradbroke)

Hello  mckha489,

Thank you for looking all this up.
I was beginning to think that they might all be somewhere in Stradbroke . It's in Suffolk I believe.

The last post of yours re Bartholomew I wondered if he might be Ann's son but had nothing that would suggest that.

Bartholomew's death 1763 - his will names clearly all of the family.  I should get a copy of that if possible.

I don't know anything about Susan but that death  for a Susan Rudd 1766 may be sisgnificant.   Mary married 1765,

I did see that marriage for Bartholomew Rudd and Ann Watling but put it aside because of not knowing when Mary was born .  Ann wife of John Mornement fits  the dates,  except Ann was born 1737  but maybe that is incorrect too,
I do not have her baptism either - just inferred date  C1737.

I wonder if Bartholomew's will states anywhere the DOB's of his children.  It's almost too much to ask for.

I need to copy all this out before anything else,  so will post again  -  asap.

Thank you  for all the above info.  It  is truly great,. Very much appreciated.  Now I have a track to follow.  ;)

hi mckha489

Thank you I will look again.

Followed the first link and found the Rudd entry and details.  So just have to wait for a clearer connection to internet for the other one.
I will let you know once i  access it.
