Hi ciderdrinker,   thank you for the info.  I'm trying to back check work I did in 2018 and 2013. Hoping to visit Rose Ash in April to revisit the church. My brickwall is John Crocker b.circa 1760 who married Mary, but Mary who? Possibley Loosemoor or Short.

John Crocker and Mary had 3 children baptised
Jane bp 1780
Elizabeth bp1783
John bp 1786-d1860   more work needed!

Out of interest also got as far as Cape Cod looking at Mayflower Crockers.  Americans extremly welcoming and opened up library for us. Finally accepted their Crockers came fro Modbury Devon. They had visited Devon Record Office!

Regards carolmc

Hi -Brilliant with US stuff
I've got their marriage but it wasn't to Mary Short or Loosemore.
The banns were read at Bishops Nympton which was his parish and South Molton which was hers and where they married 25th  Dec 1780
John Crocker lab of BN and Mary Eastaway spinster of this parish by banns and consent of John Crocker's father.(no name given for father)
So he was under 21 and presumably Jane was already there.
wit William Hitchcock and Jeffrey Hobbs.
The bride and groom made a cross.

There is a burial of a son John 6.4.1783 s of John of Rose Ash at Bishops Nympton.
And I'm guessing Mary was buried 23.5.1790 wife of John Crocker which would explain the lack of more children.

Given his age I'd go for this as him
John s of James and Elizabeth Crocker 31.8.1760 at BN.
The other alternatives would make him too old to need his father's consent.

A possible burial at BN for a John Crocker age 70 6th Nov 1827 may well be him with a guess at his age.

There is an older brother for John --William s of James and Elizabeth 22.1.1756.

James Crocker a workman married Elizabeth Delbridge spinster 29.1.1755 xx at Bishops Nympton.
wit William and John Shapcote.

What do you think?

Hi and thank you for helping. Still not finding any firm conclusion of which Mary was the correct Mary.
Now thinking that there may be 2 John's married to 2 Mary's! Even the deaths are inconclusive. I will visit the graveyards at Rose Ash and Bishops Nympton. Many thanks carolmc.  TOPIC CLOSED
