Luke Keogh/Keough
« on: Friday 09 February 24 10:37 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I need help finding what became of Luke Keough/Keogh. He was born about 1834-7 in Ireland.

August 1860 he married Ellen McIntyre in Morpeth. In the 1861 they are living at Oldgate Street in Morpeth. They had two children; Mary (1861) and Luke (1864), both in Morpeth.

In 1871 census Ellen is listed as still married, but the household only has her and the children. Afterwards, she has three illegitimate children Elizabeth (16/11/73), James Gregory (12/11/76) and Agnes Ann (23/3/80). James and Agnes died in infancy. By 1881 Ellen is listed as widowed. She, Luke Jr. and Elizabeth have reverted to surname McIntyre. They are living in Challoners Yard, Morpeth. So I am thinking that Luke died between 1863 and 1873, but can’t find any deaths.  :-\

I believe he is the father of my gx3 grandmother Mary Muldoon, born 1861, Morpeth. She married William Muldoon in 1879 under the surname Mary Ann Crow, but the maiden names on her children’s births ranged McIntyre, Keough and Crow. Given that Mary Keough’s brother was known as Luke McIntyre, and my ggfather had that as his first/middle name, I think there is possibly a connection.  ???

Many thanks.

Hi
The marriage was 6th Aug at St Roberts Catholic Chapel North Shields.
The Newspaper announcement says they are both of Morpeth in the Newcastle Guardian and Town Mercury.
The eldest two children seem to baptised at Morpeth -Luke 1.11.1863 and Mary 7 July 1861.

I have already bought Mary’s GRO record. :) Born 12/6/61 at Oldgate Street, parents Luke Keough (drainer) and Ellen McIntyre.

Thanks for the date of marriage—I’d seen it before but couldn’t remember the exact day. Although I think they were married at St Roberts in Morpeth instead, same place where the children were baptised.

Elizabeth their sister was baptised 27 Nov 1873, at St Robert too, mother as Helena McIntyre Keogh. James Gregory baptised 3 Dec 1876 & Agnes baptised 25 Apr 1880, both under the surname McIntyre.
