1859 is after the Hawksworths, yes, as far as I know. William died in 1853 and his wife Susanna died in 1855. Their son George may have taken over for a while as he was a landlord too, latterly of The Bull's Head, Shambles, off the top of my head, the pub his aunt and uncle Benjamin and Mary Strutt had occupied for years. So many pub landlords in my tree and I don't even drink :)

I am wondering if the Swan and the White Swan are different establishments, or if it just cleaned up its image :) It is probably the same place.

Thanks for those articles - I have searched the British Newspaper Archives for Hawksworth and Swan in Barnsley and found several that are interesting and helpful, including those. I think they are better than many other sources for giving insight into people's lives, especially the juicy bits!
