Where did they go to school
« on: Saturday 10 February 24 21:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to find out where my grandfather went to school. In 1911, his family lived at 7 Pearl Street, New Shildon. They were still there in 1921, but he was out working.
Looking for;
Edwin Stonehouse was born in 1906
Fred Stonehouse was born in 1904.
Other children still alive were
Eillen 1910 - 1919
Winifred 1913 not with family in 1921.
Any help is much appreciated
Carol

Thank you for the interesting read, fiddlerslass. I plan to email them to inquire about any documents related to the children's admission to the school. They may be able to tell me where these are held if they still exist.

"My grandfather, grandmother and mother immigrated to New Zealand in 1952, seeking a better life after the war. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away in 1964 and my grandfather in 1970. I had only limited knowledge of their history, as my mother could only provide me with some names. However, she became interested in our family history a few years before she passed away. Now that I know the name of the school, I will try Durham Archives. Thank you for your assistance."

Hi Carol,
The archives are not digitised and at the moment are inaccessible as they are moving to a new building.
They do usually run a research service if you can't get there in person or perhaps someone could go for you once they are up and running. Unfortunately I don't live near Durham anymore.

I have a lot of family from Shildon (spent my first 4years there!)and surrounding places, and actually have a couple of Stonehouse on my tree, connection is via my extended  Hopps family. If you have Ancestry:

I am just about to take the cat to the vet.
I don't have Ancestry so cannot see what you have on your tree.
My mum was nee Stonehouse. Thank you for your help.
