William Wilson Inn Keeper of Kirkcambeck
« on: Sunday 11 February 24 09:07 GMT (UK) »
Wondering if anyone could help me source surname name of William Wilson’s wife Mary?

Their daughter Jane Wilson married Simon Kennedy at Lanercost in 1856

A cousin found a Press Notice for their wedding stating William Wilson was Inn Keeper at Kirkcambeck at time of this Wedding

William and Mary were my Ancestral  3x Great Grandparents

Have had this information for years but conflicting research shows varied dates for birth
These range from 1797 until 1816

William and Jane his daughter are on the 1841 Census at Abbey Lanercost

Jane and Simon Kennedy who was a Shoemaker moved their family to North East of England and this is where they died

Any information much appreciated

Thanks in advance

This link will take you to a a view of the 1865 6 inch map where you can see Bankhead in the bottom right corner and Knowe in the top left corner, with a Presbyterian Chapel just south of the village.

I think this marriage is probable, based on information from the baptism of their son James.
https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5817c59ee93790eb7f8bb65e/mary-routledge-william-wilson-marriage-cumberland-stapleton-1833-06-15?locale=en

This marriage names Mary Routledge.

On the 1835 tithe map of the parish of Bewcastle the owner and occupier of the plot named as Bankhead homestead is George Routledge.

added: that was a little cryptic, Bankhead Cottage was the abode of the parents of Jane at the baptism at Nether Knowe linked elsewhere.

added later: my mistake, the abode of Jane’s parents was Bankend Cottage not Bankhead.

William and Mary Wilson possibly this couple buried at Stapleton?

To the memory of Mary wife of William WILSON who died at Kirkcambeck April 12th 1852 aged 37 years. Also the above William WILSON died at Nickes-hill Oct 13th 1872 aged 65 years.

Many thanks for all the different information

I did source deaths for both William and Mary
Had never added them into data as was uncertain of them being correct match

1852 was the year I had for Mary but 1860 came up as death year for William

Can I ask an additional question re William and his occupation
Would there be any records  for the Inn which he took charge of?

Know their daughter Jane and Simon Kennedy were married by Reverend Isaac Dodgson

Dodgson Armstrong Little Forester and Routledge are recurring names within the branches  of Kennedy Individuals of Stapleton and Bewcastle

Thanks again for all the replies

Much appreciated

Edith
