Laynton & Smithurst 1900's Manchester
« on: Sunday 11 February 24 13:39 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with the birth record of Mary E Smithurst who married Leonard Laynton in 1926 in the district of Salford. Would like to find the parents names of of Mary + any siblings. Could Smithurst be spelt Smethurst, or ?. A registrar wedding ?. Leonard was 24 when he married Mary.

What information have you gleaned from the 1921 census (Place of birth?) and the 1939 National Register (Date of Birth).

That would help you find her Birth Registration.
And the 1911 census.

Thank you. I would think the 1939 census details may be of help, or a copy of the marriage certificate.

There wasn't a census in 1939 ;)

That was the 1939 National Register - used by the NHS until the 1990's.
A census is a snapshot of the population on a single specified day.

The information you have kindly sent for Leonard Laynton born 1932 is correct. His father was Leonard Laynton. It was his wife's family I was looking for. I had it as Smithurst and would think Mary was born 1900 to 1908. Married Salford district 1926

1939 Electoral reg does record Leonard and Mary Elizabeth together at 7, Rectory Gdns.

Think you may have to purchase their marriage certificate to ascertain who her father was and his occupation--if recorded.

Having looked through all the normal options, I am sure I will need to order a copy of their marriage certificate
