Need help searching Roscommon Baptism records
« on: Sunday 11 February 24 18:59 GMT (UK) »
I would humbly appreciate help locating the baptism records of the following ancestors.  They were all born in Carrogarve, Tibohine, Civil District of Fairymount, Rural District of Castlerea, in Roscommon County.

I'm not necessarily asking someone here to do the research FOR me, but if you can help me understand how to do the research myself, that would be very useful to me.

All of these people are the Catholic children of Patrick Niland/Neilan and Margaret Giblin of Carrogarve:

-- Mary Margaret Neilan/Niland, born 1845 or 1846;

-- Michael Neilan/Niland, born 1846;

-- Patrick and Marian (Maren? Marie? illegible) Neilan, twins born abt. 1856.

Alternate spellings of Niland might be Nylan, Neilan, Nilon...

None of these people died in Ireland, if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Parish records are free online
Tibohine
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0558

Searchable by name on the likes of Ancestry, results depend on how well they were transcribed so it is often better to scroll through the originals yourself.

There is a selection of buttons at the top of the images which will lighten, darken etc. which can be very useful on difficult to read pages.

Just to start you off. I use Ancestry to begin with because as you will see, the records can often be a strain on the eyes!
I have, though, only found this one.
If you are using a subscription site first:
The records may be in Latin
You already have variation in spellings.
In this case I just used ‘Tibohine’ in the keyword box and ‘Pat*’ in father’s name (no surname) and Marg* Giblin for mother.
This brought up ‘Thomam Neelon’ with parents ‘Patricii’ and ‘Margar’.

Here you are - Thomas baptised 10th January 1844

Best wishes

Added
I have spotted ‘Michaelim Nealy’ - 14th August 1855 with mother ‘Marie’ Giblin
There is also ‘Maria’ so if you are using Ancestry you might try Mar* for mothers name.
