James Brown (unfortunately)
« on: Tuesday 13 February 24 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Looking for the baptism of James Brown born c 1834 in Northumberland; he is a bit vague about exactly were but the 1861 census has it as Stamford, the 1871 as Northumberland, the 1881 as Stamford, the 1891, completely inaccurately as Cornwall, and the 1901 as 'Swind', Northumberland.
These places were taken from census returns after he married; he did so at Longframlington on the 21st February 1857 to Margaret Faill of Framlington; his abode was given as Hedley Wood. This was taken from the Newcastle Journal, dated 28th February 1857.

They did move around quite a bit in 1861 he was in Thropton, near Rothbury, 1871, he was in North Seaton, near Morpeth, 1881, he was in East Pontop, near Kyo, Durham and in 1891 and 1901 he was in Wingate and Dipton respectively.

I can't trace him with any certainty in 1841 or 1851, but I know that Stamford is near Alnwick, which hasnt helped!
Can anyone trace him?

Thanks
Sue

Unfortunately I don't have the certificate, just the notice from the Newcastle Journal, which gives their places of residence when they wed.
I'm waiting for a copy marriage certificate for another family member, Sarah Brown (James' granddaughter), and was trying to save myself the cost of yet another, but he is proving very elusive!

Marriage certificates are expensive aren't they.  We don't realise how lucky we are that so many are online now.

Does this help?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGLJ-SZYY

and if you do want a marriage record (to see all the info) then a visit to a FHC would let you see the original
If you can get to Woodhorn they will have the register
OR Woodhorn will email a digital copy of the marriage register entry which gives you the original record, complete with signatures . Last ones I had were about £5.50, no idea if there has been any increase recently. I only ever purchase marriage records from GRO if they aren't available at the archives  for the price of one on a posh bit of paper I can get two records from the archives.

There is this ‘family’ in 1841 830 /bk 6/folio 19/pg 5

Long Framlington
Isaac Brown 28yrs - Agricultural labourer
Mary 26 yrs
WTH children including James, 8 yrs

No James in 1851 2413 /378/22
The occupation fits with James’ occupation in 1861, I think.

Several Isaacs though.

That could he them!! James' second son, and my original query, was Isaac, born in 1859. Perhaps named for Isaac senior
