John Armstrong married Sarah Allen Query
« on: Tuesday 13 February 24 16:24 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find any proof of a marriage between John Armstrong and Sarah Allen in Bedfordshire in 1698, but having no luck! John died in 1727 in Riseley, while Sarah was born 9 July 1676 in the county.

Many thanks,

Bob

There are a number of baptisms for children at Riseley between 1700 and 1716 with parents John and Sarah ARMSTRONG. Many public trees on Ancestry have their marriage in 1698, but have no supporting evidence.

Many thanks for the replies.
It seems some 'creative' genealogy is at play here!

Not necessarily, it's just that they don't provide a source - probably all copied from one another.

There is a Sarah ALLEN baptised at St Swithin, Sandy 9 July 1676, parents James and Margaret.

I suspect this looked like a possible for John's wife, but without a marriage entry, I'm not certain.

I was sent it by someone who'd seen the info on the internet - probably Ancestry. I'm always wary of Ancestry trees, plus LDS entries. I noticed that someone had taken 25 years off the age of John's first child (born in 1700), and claimed a 1675 birth date. Typical of LDS entries. It may be that someone else then found a Sarah of the same age!

And a Sarah Allen bapt Bedford in 1679 and another in Kempston in 1673 - both a bit closer to Riseley than Sandy.
But I cannot see any evidence that Sarah's surname was Allen. All the baptism records I have found (on FindMyPast, so only transcripts) just give her forename - no maiden surname.

Children baptised to the couple in Riseley don't seem to have the names James or Margaret. Doesn't preclude Sarah ALLEN as the mother, but ...

27 Dec 1700  Sarah
11 Dec 1701  William
3 Sep 1704  Elizabeth
9 Jan 1706/7  Mary
19 Feb 1709/10  John
28 Jan 1710/11  Robert
31 Jan 1713/14  John
25 Mar 1716  Rebecca

Modified to add:
Sorry, didn't see your post Lizzie. What are the parents' names of the other Sarah ALLENs?
