Two Stickland children with mmn House

Susan STICKLAND
Q1 1855  DORCHESTER AND CERNE district Vol 05A  P 348

Robert Archibald STICKLAND
Q2 1853   BLANDFORD  Vol 05A  P 244

These children are probably those of James Stickland his wife Ann. There is a marriage of a James Stickland in 1854 - Dorchester district, only other name on page is Ann House. Marriage record image on Ancestry again. marriage at Melcombe Horsey, James's father  also George, so James is William's brother. The two House brides have different fathers, so not sisters

@cath151, that was the only marriage I could find on the bmd index, but I still wasn't sure.. :) but if someone has it in their tree, then it must be the right marriage.. thank you for looking.

No. It's not the right marriage... William's father's name is Henry.. whereas the marriage record states  the groom's father as George Stickland.

What evidence is there that the William in Jersey is the same as William from Steeple? William in Jersey was born in England somewhere and is the right age. This doesn't narrow it down to a small village in Dorset.
His son Jesse born in England in about 1851 doesn't appear on the GRO
Also in Jersey in 1871 is a William Stickland b about 1854 in England (hotel servant - boots boy). Could he be another son? A few possibilities for his birth on GRO
No sign of Harriet Stickland's birth in Jersey.

Is this a coincidence
From Jersey records: Born 4 Oct 1860 baptised 11 Nov 1860 St Helier, father William, mother Hannah mmn Churchill
From GRO Jesse Hopkins: Birth reg Q4 1850 Blandford district mmn Churchill
William Hopkins   Birth reg Q2 1854   DORCHESTER AND CERNE  mmn CHURCHILL

Could be that Hannah Churchill married a Mr Hopkins, then left him for William Stickland (who may be the one from Steeple) and they moved to Jersey, but couldn't marry because she was still legally married to Mr Hopkins.

@LizzieL

Honestly, absolutely nothing. The note I wrote back in 2014 just has Henry Stickland 1792, above William Stickland b.1825 Steeple, Dorset. Then the names Hannah b.1826, Hope b.1851, Harriet b.1861 St. Helier, Jersey, CI. I also noted William was an Ag Lab and Gardener.

This far forward I can't remember where I found that information, but am going forward with it because of the supposed connection to William through Henry.

I've also checked the information given here, and it does seem to line up..
